Navigating Queensland's New Smoke Alarm Legislation
As of 1 January 2022, all homes or units being sold or leased, as well as existing leases being renewed, will necessitate hardwired photoelectric or 10-year lithium battery-powered smoke alarms. These alarms must be interconnected using radio technology, ensuring enhanced safety measures across properties.

Smoke alarms must be installed:
-
On each storey: Ensure coverage on every level of the dwelling.
-
In every bedroom: Provide protection within each sleeping area.
-
In hallways connecting bedrooms and other areas: Install alarms in hallways linking sleeping quarters with the rest of the dwelling.
-
If no hallway exists between bedrooms and other parts of the storey: Place alarms in areas providing direct access between sleeping areas and the rest of the floor.
-
If there are no bedrooms on a storey: Install at least one smoke alarm along the most probable path of travel leading to the exit of the dwelling.
